4 Proven Tactics To Reclaim Your Shoreline

Are you the owner of a golf course or resort area? Or maybe you have a shoreline in your residential community. If so, you should know how important it is to keep your pond area in perfect shape. Shoreline restoration in the wake of a major disaster is key. In this article we will outline 4 tactics that are proven to be effective for reclaiming your shoreline area.

1. Set Natural Boundaries for Plant Life in Your PondThere is nothing wrong with having plenty of plant life in your lake or pond. This is one of the surest signs that your water area is thriving. However, it's no good to let certain types of plant species, such as cattails, run rampant. If left to their own devices, they can easily choke off the air supply for other plants and fish.

The key is to set and maintain set boundaries for cattails and other aquatic plant species. This way, your pond will stay healthy and attract plenty of wildlife and human visitors. The best way to do so is to engage the services of a pond maintenance expert who can use safe and modern methods to keep your aquatic plants in check.

2. Spray Away All of Your Unwanted Plant GrowthOne of the best ways to keep your shoreline in good health is to make sure that you don't let plant growth run wild. This can be as much a problem on the actual shoreline itself as it is in the water. Your best bet will be to specially EPA-approved herbicides to keep both of these areas under your full control.

3. Remove All of the Dead Vegetation From Your ShorelineMake sure to remove dead plants from your shoreline as well as from the water. This should be done on a regular basis in order to keep this material from piling up. Dead plant material can lead to a great many problems. These include becoming a source of natural nutrition for fast growing algae that can quickly bloom out of control.

You need to schedule a regular series of routine clean ups for your shoreline. This will keep the area from being clogged up with dead vegetation. The more on top of this task you stay, the less you will need to worry about your lake area getting choked up or overrun with algae blooms.

4. Know When the Time is Right to Conduct MaintenanceOne of the keys in maintaining your pond or lake at a safe level is knowing when and when not to conduct routine maintenance. This means knowing how to wait until the conditions are just right.

For example, it's always best to wait until vegetation such as cattails is dead and dried before removing it. This makes it much easier to simply scoop up and transport away from the area. It' important not to let this material decompose because it quickly turns into nutritional material for algae to feed on.
