Water erosion occurs when runoff, waves or concentrated flow carries soil away from a bank or slope. A durable repair starts by identifying the cause rather than simply covering the damaged area.

What to evaluate

  • Where runoff enters the bank
  • Wave action and changing water levels
  • Bank slope and soil condition
  • Mowing, foot traffic and maintenance practices
  • Nearby walls, sidewalks, pipes or structures

Depending on the site, stabilization may use grading, vegetation, geotextile systems, B.E.S.T.™, riprap or a combination of methods.
